High school counselors

As a high school counselor you are on the front lines for students when they're making decisions about beginning college or transferring institutions. The following resources will help you provide information to your students about Wayne State University.

Wayne State admission requirements

Freshman applicants can apply beginning in Sept. of their senior year. They'll be asking you to send their official transcript to us when they apply. An undergraduate application, official high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores are the only required documents an applicant must submit. Letters of recommendation are optional.

New for fall 2012 applicants is that we no longer have an application fee for domestic (U.S. citizens or permanent residents) students. Please share this information with your students.

If you're one of our Canadian counselors, check out the admission requirements for Canadian students here.

Opportunities to visit

Our admission counselors are out-and-about during the academic year. We will call you at the beginning of the school year to set up an initial visit to speak with your students. Direct students to our recruitment schedule so they know when we'll be in the area!

Campus tours

If you haven't been on campus, how can you love it as much as we do? Walking tours of campus are offered weekdays at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Leave some extra time during your visit to purchase Wayne State gear at the bookstore or grab a snack at one of our on-campus eateries (like Starbucks or Einstein Bagel Bros.). We enthusiastically welcome school groups to visit our campus as well - bring your class!

Open House

Tour campus and our neighborhood in Midtown Detroit, meet faculty members, chat with current students and explore our nearly 400 degree programs and majors during our fall and spring Open Houses.

Scholars Day

This is the university's largest scholarship event. We invite prospective first-year applicants and their parents to campus for a day of interviews, presentations and tours. Students must be invited to Scholars DayContact our office if you have any questions about student eligibility for Scholars Day.

New for this year is the addition of our Distinguished Scholars Symposium, held in December. The best and brightest scholars will be invited to campus for a day. Students who attend the Distinguished Scholars Symposium are guaranteed membership in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College and are offered tuition support in the form of our Presidential Scholarship, worth $40,000 ($10,000 per year for up to four years).
